Continental Army Vs. British Army

As we enter the Battles of the American Revolution and the eventual surrender of the British Army (sorry to ruin the ending), we are going to take a look at the state of the Continental Army and the British Army. We are going to discuss the advantages both had and the disadvantages both had. At first glance, looking at the colonists going up against the most powerful military in the world, it may seem that the colonists did not have any advantages. That, however, is untrue. Using your discussion notes in class or reviewing the powerpoint, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both armies.

Task:
1.Describe the state of the Continental Army in the early goings of the American Revolution.
2. Describe the advantages the British army had and HOW the Continental Army took those advantages away.
3. Describe the Advantages of the Continental Army
4. Describe the Disadvantages of the British Army
5. Describe the Disadvantages of the Continental Army. How did the patriots turn their disadvantages into advantages?

In the beginning of the Revolution the Continental Army, The Army begins to decline from disease, there enthusiasm decreased, and men loss hope. The British on the other hand had a powerful Navy, superior weapons, formational training. This was no problem for the colonists because they could easly stay away from the coast, and the weapons didn't work to well because the colonists knew the land and avoided everything, and with guerrila they shot the British troops with ease.

1.They had NO discipline, flag, uniforms, experience, sanitations, supplies or training.
2.They had the most powerful Navy, the continental army stayed away from the water, They had superior weapons, the colonists steal them, but they really cant take away discipline.
3. The continental army was fighting on there own land, they had something to fight for, they had French assistance, they out number the british and can easily ressuply
4. The British had a small army, they were overconfident, and they were fighting on unfamiliar land.
5.They had a shortage of money but they could ressuply easily so they didnt have to pay a lot for weapons, they didnt have a professional good trained army but they did have a very large one.

1. In the beginning of the Revolution they didn't have a lot of guns, discipline, experience, or good leaders.
2. They had an amazing army, a lot of ships so the Americans took away their weapons and water.
3.The Continental Army could pick where they faught and they were in their own country so they knew what they were doing .
4.The British's disadvantages were that they weren't in their own country and they were incredibly cocky and they had red coats that were easy to see when they were fighting.
5.They didn't have a lot of training but they worked on that, and then they got a better leader so their discipline got better.

1. The Continental Army is in a terrible stat at first, they have no discipline, no flag to prove unity, no uniforms, and most importantly they have little to no experience in fighting/war.
2. The Britich advantages were that they had the name of being "the most powerful army in the world" they also were very well trained, better disciplined, had better equipment, and had pay, and better health. But the continental army could take away some of them by fighting inland, defeating the purpose of using a navy, and they made the british's good formation turn back on them, by using guerilla warfare.
3. The Continental Army advantages inclued outnumbering the British, knowing the land well that they are fighting on, have French on their side, and they also have a reason to fight making them ore determined.
4 The british advantages included being well trained, powerful navy, better equipment, and disipline.
5. The Continental Army may have has disadvantages, but they turned them around like having an unproffesional army by bringing in better leaders to make them better disiplined.

1. They did not have uniforms and the sanitations was bad. They had no real training. And no flag.
2.They had a good navy- They stayed away from the water. They were well trained- moved during the battle. Good head officers- shot them first
3. They knew the land. They had more fight because they wanted their freedom.
4. Not their land. Hand less people and cocky

5. They took their unsanitary bodies and appointed a leader or leaders to lead them and help them win this war.

1. They didnt have stuff like a flag, disaplent.

2.They had a good army and well prepared. They out thought them and took their wepons away. Stuff like that.

3. They didnt have to go all the way across the sea, they had their own land.

4.They had to stay on ships and had to go all they way across the sea to get more suplies.

5.They had a weak army, so they got a comander and became strong got more wepons and took care of them selfs.

1.Describe the state of the Continental Army in the early goings of the American Revolution: In the beggining, America was very enthusastic about fighting for there country.
2. Describe the advantages the British army had and HOW the Continental Army took those advantages away:They had more wepons & attacked by sea. The Continental army took those away by fighting in-land, not by sea.
3. Describe the Advantages of the Continental Army: They knew the "Lay of the Land", they camoflaged better, & they had more people fighting for them.
4. Describe the Disadvantages of the British Army: They wore Red clothing, had less people, were away from there families & didn't have the drive the Continental's did.
5. Describe the Disadvantages of the Continental Army. How did the patriots turn their disadvantages into advantages: Sickness, Lack of food, no proper training...They sort of, Made Themselves fight for something.

1. they were not at all orginized the only way you could tell it was a militia was there muskets.
2. the british were very oginized and had clean camps. they did not get camp fever. they fought in lines. we used gorrila war fare to take that away. we also had the advantage of knowing the land well for battles or attacks.
3. fought in trees used cover to hide. had good supplies except musket suplies. almost endless supply of Patriots.
4. they did not have nearly as many men. did not have as good of supplies. shipped evry ting in.
5. did not have proper training like the british did so they just popped up and shot. this was much more effective than lines. they also waited out the war and outlasted them.

3. they new the land and had more people.

4. they didnt know the land and they lined up in row so it is easer to shoot.

5. the disavantages were they didnt have a lot of clothes. and they used the grass to warm them up.

2. Most powerful in world, had training, better disciplined, better equipeed, regular pay, better health, powerful navy.
3. outnumbered british, fighting on own land, higher morale, can easily resupply, can nullify british navy, french assistence, guerrila warfare, no capital.
4. small army, overconfidence, failure to adapt to american guerrilla, must defend canadian colonies from colonies, supply routs were long, fighting in umfamilier places.
5. Tents/shelters made out of anythin, "Camp Fever",bathrooms anywhere, men left, no ports, shortage of money, native americans harassed american troops, supply routes, and towns.

1. They had no uniform, no flag, no traning, no disipline and many more things.

2. One adventage was that they had a really good navel army and the continental army took it away bay saying inland. Another thing was the were good at standing in formation and shooting so the continantal army invented garilla and garilla is where you hide and pop out and shoot not just stand there.

3. More people, better ways of fighting(garilla), in there own area(good for many things such as not having to go back to england to get soppils and they know the land better than the british because it is the first time they were there).

4. They had to go back to there county to get stuff.

5. Because they would use there disadventges and changed them and use them aginst the british.

1. The state of the Continental Army in the early going of the American Revolution was bad. Their weapons weren't as powerful as the British and they became ill from the lack of hygiene.
2. The advantages the British Army had were that they had better weapons and were healthier than the Continental Army. The Continental Army took those advantages away by using guerrilla warfare to shoot down the British.
3. The advantages the Continental Army had was that they knew the land better and didn't have a Naval army so they didn't spend time on or around the sea. The British Army couldn't shoot the canons because of that.
4. The disadvantages of the British Army were that they were over-confident, and wore bright red jackets. Because of them being over-confident, they didn't think the Continental Army could beat them; so they didn't try as hard as they probably could have. The bright red jackets the British Army wore made it easy for the Continental Army to identify and shoot them down.
5. The disadvantages the Continental Army had were that they had no professional training and had very little of aforementioned training. They turned it into an advantage by using guerrilla warfare, though.

1. They didn't have nothing like no experience, flag, discipline etc.
2. British had the most powerful army/navy so what the continental army did was they stayed away from water.
3. They were fighting on their land so they knew where everything was and they had France helping them.
4. British had small army they were fighting on land they did not know.
5. The disavantages for the army was they were not trained and hardly didn't have enough clothing so a lot of people died. They turned their disadvantages by getting commanders and leaders to help them will battles.

1. The Continental Army wasn't looking so good to begin with. Almost every Patriot was a farmer that had never fought for anything ever. Some of the people there were from the French and Indian War, but not very many.
2. Some of the advantages the British had over the Patriots were a superior navy, well fed troops, troops with excellent health, great training, and were very organized. The Patriots took away the navy by not being anywhere near the water, so the navy was useless. Even if the troops were well fed, well equipped, and well trained, they weren't used to the terrain that the Patriots were used too. This was useless whether they were well trained, because the Patriots were unorganized, making it harder to hit more than one person. So the Patriots were able to hit the British Very easily while in rows. Since the British were in rows, or columns, it was very easy to hit someone eventually if you just shoot into the crowd. You're bound to hit something.
3. The Continental Army was used to the Terrain they fought in, giving them a huge advantage. They also used great tactics, such as guerilla warfare. It's a form of strategy where a small group of men attack quick, then run. The Patriots were also fighting for Indipendence. What better cause is there to fight the opponent then for freedom?
4. The British armies were at huge disadvantages. The British army hired mercinaries to fight for them, and the mercinaries didn't care whether they won or lost, just as long as they didn't die. This wasn't so great because they didn't fight as well if they were trying to fight for something worth fighting for. The British army was also at a disadvantage because they were unable to use their navy. Their main force was navy, and couldn't use it if there was nothing to attack, which is why the Patriots kept away from the sea.
5. Some of the disadvantages the Patriots were horrible, such as horrible food and water, and how none of them were even trained to fight a war. They had never carried a gun to kill another human being before, and this was most likely the very first time the intended to do so. They had horrible food that went bad very quickly. One day you got a nice bit of flour, the next day, it's all moldy. That wouldn't be to good if that was your only food source, which it was pretty much their only food source. The Patriots also had hardly any clothing to protect them during the winter. Some froze to death, or got frost bite because they didn't have enough clothes to keep them warm.
