The Columbus Questions

The Columbus Question is this: Is Christopher Columbus a Hero? Or a Mass Murder? Was anything his fault?
To dive into the Christopher Columbus Question, we must first be informed on the topic. Review the powerpoint to get a base of Columbus knowledge. In order to form an opinion on whether or not Christopher Columbus was a hero or a villian, you must first have the facts. Now, ask yourself some simple questions: What was the impact of his voyages? What things (good or bad) did he bring to the America's? What things (good or bad) did he bring back to Europe? What did his voyages lead to? What were the consequences? Understanding the impact of his voyages and consequent voyages by others, we can begin to see the impact of his exploring. Now, before you stand up and scream "Murderer!" Be careful. Was what happened as a result of his voyages his fault? Would the exact same thing have happened if someone else would of been the first? Was he a victim of the times? Perhaps the old saying is true in this case: Wrong place at the wrong time? Think about it. Was Columbus a Hero or a Murderer?

I think he is an hero because he found this land and if he didnt we wouldnt be here. I dont think hes a murder but he did kill alot of people. I think he kill all thoughs people with out even knowing it was his falut. He didnt even mean to kill all thoughs people. I think HIS LOSS OUR WIN!

I think the whole thing was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean it's not like he meant to cause everything he did cause. Give him a break, the guy wasn't even alive long enough to see what he did anyway. It was a complete accident, he didn't know.

I think it was bound to happen some time so it would have been him or some other guy.

I think christopher columbus is just a man. any sailor or explor could have found Amarica and that everything that happend would have happend.

I think that this was going to happen no matter what. Someone was going to find this content and bring the sicknesses over. I dont think he is a murderer or a hero. Just because her found the new world he is not a hero but he also did not mean to kill all of those people. Before he sailed he probably did not even think about it. I would call him a explore that has found something new just like the people that found other places as well.

I think that Columbus was a hero because he is the man who discovered what is now North America! At the time he never had any intentions of killing the "Indians" in 1492 they didn't even know that they were going to spread diseases. It wasn't until after he died that Vespucci and others began the slavery and the Europeans began to think so highly of themselves.

Well, first of all, I think we all know what Mr. Klumper thinks. Your not very subtle when hiding your opinions. But anyway, I think he's most defiantly a hero. Or at least not a murder. There are HUNDREDS of other people we could be trashing, why him?I think people are just trying to start fights. Gotta have someone to hate. But sooner or later SOMEONE would have come across North America(Or..erm..Asia) , he just was the first credible one. He didn't know he was going to bring those diseases!

i think that he was not a villan. yes he was the reason that thousands of people died but he did not mean to bring desieses to the americas. he was immuned and thought nothing of the diseases becaused they had not been a bbig thing in eutrope for the last 20 years. he just sailled across the ocean to make one of the biggest discoveries of all times. the peapole would of died of simular desasesif we just came over today.
he brought new wealth back to europe and was rich.
he is now for finding the most powerful country today

I think he happened to be a normal person who happened to be there at the right time, instead of the wrong one, like some other unfortunate people. *Refers to the Native Americans* He was a brave man, but someone else would have taken his place had he not gone.

I don't really think that his is a murderer or hero. He did find new land and that was good, but he did bring over those European diseases. But also I think someone would have had to come over sometime and discover it and bring the diseases with so i don't think it is entirely his fault. He also isnt really a hero because what he did wasnt that HUGE i mean someone else could have discovered it too. And he didnt even know what he had discovered, he thought he was in Asia. So i don't think that he is either just hero or muderer, but i also think he is both at the same time.

I do not think that he was either. Someone was bound to come over sooner or later he just happened to be the first. About the whole murder thing, i dont think he was a murderer at all. He thought that he was gonna asia and maybe he thought they were immune to it. Or maybe he didnt think or it at all, i know i would have the slighest clue that i would transfer terrible desieses, and kill off many of people. So thats what i think.

I think that columbus was just an average guy because someone was going to bring over the deseaces and he actualy didnt try to find America so he is not a murdurer or a hero.

I think that columbus is neither a hero or a villian, he just wanted new land for his country. He didn't know about the diseases, or anything like that. He just wanted land and money. Bad things: People died from diseases, slavery started. Good things: We were born, and what could be good or bad: They got rich and more land.

I think that Christopher Columbus is just a regular person who thought he found the way to the indies but ended up in the America's. If Christopher Columbus didn't find the America's, someone else would have and the same problems would have happened. The Europeans didn't know that they brought over many diseases and even if they did they probably thought that the "Indians" wouldn't get sick. There for Columbus is not bad, he is probably the best thing that happened.

I dont think that he murdered anyone i just think that he was ther at the wring time. He was not aware of what he was doing. He did not know that he was going to bring over the diseases he was just immuned to them. He yes, was responsible but with out knowing

I don't think he's a murderer, but I don't think he's a hero either. He just thought he was in India but was really just somewhere else. It wasn't his fault that he brought a disease back to England, it was just that they didn't have a vaccine for it back then and lots of people died.

I think he is bad by bringing a lot of back diseases from Europe that killed a lot of Natives. The other hand I think he is a good by descoverying South America and North America. So thats what I think of Christopher Columbus.

Wesley H said...

I think he is a murderer because if he wouldn't have wanted to go to Asia and used a different route instead of the one he did he could've saved a lot of people with out knowing it and somebody else would've found america but it might have been called something else

(I'm not sure whether or not I'd done this yet, so I'll just do it again just in case)
Christopher Columbus is a hero because how was anyone to know that there's was even disease among the crew? If he'd known that, he'd be hung for murder, but he wasn't, so he couldn't have known. He's just the wrong person, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Someone would have eventually found the New World, so why not him?

Not to be rude, but i think he was a genicidal noob that wasn't thinking about what he was doing. I think he could have benefited more if he had thought about his plan first, rather than rushing out into the field of battle, hypotheticly speaking.

I think he was a victim of his time he didnt now that he would kill the indians he was doing it
for the money and the fame!
